My son is in the 3-5 year old class at Ferraro karate and I am in the adult class (I had never tried karate before). Tuesdays and Thursdays can’t come fast enough for us. Everyone should try karate!
Strong karate dojo dedicated to focus, fundamentals and fortitude. Students learn more than just kata and train in kumite (sparring), grappling and other skills necessary for self-defence. Sensei Steve Ferraro is a school teacher by profession so students receive a quality education in karate. Highly recommended.
I, as an adult, and my 9 year old daughter are just very happy to be part of Sensei Ferraro Dojo and Karate lineage. We feel the difference in our lives pre Ferraro Karate and post Ferraro Karate. Thanks Sensei and Black Belt Team of Ferraro Karate!!!
About Sensei FerraroWe’re old school and new school
Sensei Ferraro started his journey in Okinawan Shorin-ryu Shorinkan Karate at the age of 9 in Guelph, Ontario. Under the tutelage of his teacher Kyoshi Rick Roberts, Ferraro Sensei obtained his Shodan (1st dan) Black Belt in 1996, often training up to 12-14 hours a week to ensure he obtained this goal. Showing himself to be a diligent student and energetic teacher, Sensei Ferraro obtained his Nidan (2nd dan) in the year 1998 and Sandan (3rd dan) by the year 2000. After being encouraged by his teacher to consider perusing education as a potential career, Sensei Ferraro obtained his Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in English Literature from the University of Waterloo and shortly after his Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from the University of Western Ontario while continuing to teach at his instructor’s dojo.
In May of 2013, Ferraro Sensei attended a seminar in the United States to train with the now leader of the Okinawan Shorin-ryu Shorinkan Association, Hanshi (Judan, 10th dan) Minoru Nakazato, the son of Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato and heir to the Association. Ferraro Sensei was complimented on his performance and strength of his Karate. To date, this subtle compliment means more to Ferraro Sensei than any belt or rank he has received.
Later that year, Ferraro Karate was founded in an attempt to further promote traditional Okinawan Shorin-ryu Karate, under the direction of Nakazato Sensei’s Shorinkan Association to the city of Guelph; the community in which he was raised.
In his “spare” time, Ferraro Sensei is at home with his wife – Aleksandra Ferraro, his daughter – Katrina, and son – Adrian. Attempting to add to his martial knowledge, he studies Okinawan Kobudo (Traditional Weapons), Japanese Aiki-Jujitsu in the Dentokan Association and Brazilian Jiujitsu with his friend and best man, Jordan Shortt.
